Unusual and amusing photograph from Russia, ca. 1980s, showing a tamed bear playing an accordion.  The bear, seated and in a leather muzzle, appears to be playing in a public square and is accompanied by an unidentified man and woman.  Minor wear along the edges and corners, some spotting to verso; overall fine.  7.25 x 4.5 inches (18.4 x 11.4 cm.).

Original photograph of the Cuban ballerina taken immediately after disembarking a Cubana de Aviacion airplane.  A typed caption to verso, translated from the Spanish, reads "Alicia Alonso arrives at the Rancho Boyeros airport after the triumph of the Ballet Cubano in Mexico," and a handwritten label dates the photograph to May 1968.  Alonso can be seen just to right of center, laden with bouquets.  Wear to edges, surface crease to left margin, crease to lower right corner, else in fine condition.  10 x 7 inches (25.4 x 17.8 cm.).

On the original photographer's mount, signed "Avedon" in black ink beneath the photograph and with the photographer's stamp to mount verso. Baker was most noted as a singer, while in her early career she was a celebrated dancer. She was given the nicknames the "Black Venus" or the "Black Pearl", as well as the "Créole Goddess" in anglophone nations, while in France she has always been known in the old theatrical tradition as "La Baker."

Rare early original photograph of the celebrated American actress from the famous Barrymore clan whose performance in None But The Lonely Heart earned her the 1944 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.  A very early image by Otto Sarony of New York, with his stamp on the mount, ca. 1910.  Mounted bottom chipped/torn, a few stray pencil marks etc., overall fine.  5 x 7.2 inches (12.5 x 18.5 cm), mounted to an overall size of 8 x 10.8 inches (20.5 x 27.5 cm.).

Universal Pictures promotional photograph of the American actress, best known for her roles in westerns such as Passage West and Flaming Feather.  The 1947 image shows her standing on a California beach, a festive wreath in her hand.  The studio blurb affixed to verso reads, "Merry Christmas—From Pacific Sands to You / King Neptune did his Christmas shopping early this year - and what he ordered was a pretty girl, redhead preferred, to convey his season's greetings a la bathing suit style from a southern California beach.  Arleen Whelan filled the bill for His Highness, and herewith brings you greetings.  Arleen's new movie, coming your way shortly after the first of the year, is the Nunnally Johnson production, The Senator Was Indiscreet, starring William Powell.  It's a Universal-International release."  "Arleen Whelan / new Universal star" is penned to verso in Spanish by an unknown hand.  Light edge wear, toning, two large pin holes to upper left corner, else in fine condition.  8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm.).

Original vintage Keystone Press photograph, dated 8-8-1967 on the verso and with affixed press stub reading: "Three Of The Beatles Attend Lecture By Maharishi Mahesh Yogi: Maharishi Mahesh Yogi who is in London for a farewell visit on his eighth and final world tour, after which he is retiring from public life, last night spoke on the essential role of transcendental meditation in modern life at a public lecture at the Hilton Hotel in London. Among those listening to him were three of the Beatles, Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison. Maharishi lived as a recluse for many years in the Himalayas, but became concerned by the increasing tensions, suffering and strife in the modern world, that he left his seclusion to come out and teach the technique of transcendental meditation."  8.25 x 6.25 inches. Very fine.

Portrait of the British conductor in his later years in profile seated at his desk studying a score.  8.75 x 7.25 inches (22 x 18.2 cm).  Mounted to rigid backing, in fine condition.

Sir Thomas Beecham founded both the London Philharmonic Orchestra (1932) and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (1949).  He was never happy with being a salaried employee of any orchestra and preferred to gather his own ensembles instead.
